A Brief History of St. Paul Lutheran Church

1960—St. Paul Lutheran Church is organized & begins meeting in the barracks at the Richmond Airport

1961—Voters assembly elect to buy 6.5 acres of land on Oakley’s Lane for future church

1966—A new church building is dedicated in Sandston

1985—St. Paul celebrates its 25th Anniversary

1999—Rev. Rodney Bitely is installed as St. Paul’s fourth Pastor

2000—St. Paul celebrates its 40th Anniversary

2003—St. Paul members vote to relocate

2005—St. Paul moves its worship services to the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home in Mechanicsville

2005—Property & offices are purchased in Mechanicsville

2006—St. Paul begins its Sustained Giving Stewardship Emphasis

2007—St. Paul begins building design project

2008—St. Paul continues its Sustained Giving Stewardship Emphasis, finalizes building design plans and begins site development

2009—St. Paul receives loan approval to begin construction on Phase 1 of the Building Plans.  Ground Breaking Ceremony took place on November 1st and construction equipment began work November 9th.

2010—December 2010 - St. Paul holds its first Worship Service December 24, 2010.  Photos above are from June, July and October 2010.  Within weeks, construction went from a concrete slab to framing, to roofing.  Members wrote Bible Verses on unfinished wood interiors on June 6, 2010.

2011—January 30, 2011 - St. Paul Lutheran Church holds a Dedication Service for the new facility.
